El Salvador is located between Honduras and Guatemala. It has borders with the North Pacific Ocean. It is in the continent of North America and specifically in a small geographical area called Central America. There are seven other countries in Central America they are Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and of course El Salvador. Its geographic coordinates are 13 50 N, 88 55 W. It has approximately 307 km of coastline across the Pacific Ocean.
It used to belong to the Spanish Empire they took it from the Pipiles and owned it until 1821, when the country of Central America gained their independence from Spain. Later, El Salvador became its own republic.
El Salvador’s flag is blue with a white stripe in the middle with the coat of arms in the middle of the white stripe. The coat of arms shows a yellow triangle with the words DIOS UNION LIBERTAD under the triangle. In the triangle, the five volcanoes represent the five countries of Central America. Over one of the volcanoes, there is a staff with a red Phrygian cap that is in front of a golden sun which has the date of El Salvador’s independence around it. Around the triangle there are 14 garland which represents the departments of El Salvador. And around the garland, there are the words REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR EN LA AMERICA CENTRAL.
This is the lyrics of the El Salvadoran National Anthem. The National Anthem is about peace in El Salvador, liberty and justice. These are important traits of any country and it makes the National Anthem more meaningful when these three things are included.
